DVD drive as CD

My DVD optical drive appears as CD drive and doesn't react to any disc. The latest driver is intalled.

It appears as CD Drive, although it is DVD drive and it doesn't work neither from CD, nor DVD. Sometimes I hear the sound of the rotation, but nothing else.

Did it quit working recently? You could try a Restore point to a time where it did work. Don't discount the possibility the drive has failed too.

I would go for your optical drive check first.Maybe its failing or such.

Next go to computer-right click and choose device manager.Is your DVD drive listed there??Click on drop down arrow,select your drive,right click and choose properties.Under general tab in properties window does it show the drive is working properly??

In driver tab click on update drivers and check whether it updates your DVD driver software.

Old time Windows glitch...reports the drive depending on what medium was last used before most recent shutdown.
