Prehaps, you have other software installed that is interferring with the way CPU-Z is displaying the results. Did you try reinstalling. You may need to use something like CCleaner to remove it completely before reinstalling. Or use REGEDIT to delete it. Google search results for CPU-Z "issues", shows other users having problems with this utility. Since, both Device Manager, and Task Manager display the core results properly. I would not be to concerned with the results of CPU-Z. Try using a different utility.
Hello quicdraw2011,
Thanks for the information. It appears that a previous answer solved the problem, the msconfig was limiting it to to cores until I changed it. Now it shows the correct number.

I had the same problem. In my case the CPU is Phenom II x4 970 and the numbers cores shown was 3. The cause of the problem was the same. I did not have any idea why "Numbers of processor" was check-marked and entry of "3".

Thanks churin,
Didn't have a clue. When I built the machine it had the X2 in it and maybe it set itself???? When I put in the 4 core, it downloaded automatically a bunch of drivers, but never changed the cores... Live and learn!

You can leave the check box for "Number of processors" unchecked and Windows will use all cores. The reason you were limited to 2 cores was because it was checked and set at two. Its only used for trouble shooting and is normally unchecked. Your boot time might go back to normal too.

Hello pal!
The boot time is dismal. I am having a discussion on memory in another thread, I added another 4 GBs for a total of 8. It say unganged as explained in the other thread and one person say that is good, and another person says that is bad. I am leaning toward this unganged not using my memory as efficiently as it should!
Thanks weight in on the other thread, well thank ya!

Some help with processors please...
I am looking to buying a new PC but I am struggling to decide between to processors. Either the i7-930 or the i7-870. Here's the thing, they are pretty equal so its a toss up of what is more important. Please give me your input. Everything will be appreciated. Thanks. Btw: overclocking...

64-bit os on (2) 32-bit processors?
Okay, now my question is: Can you run a 64-bit OS on 2-32 bit processors? Note: i don't want to try this, but in theory it should work if the OS can address both processors as 1 64 bit processor, correct?
