    Asphire 5710z Optical Drive Xp Issue!!


    I Want To Downgrade My Cousin's Notebook Ashpire 5710z Vista home basic to xp but its optical drive shows xp cd as an empty cd and wants to format it if i open it , tried it with another xp cd but same problem!! both these xp cds are working fine on my pc also same optical drive is playing dvd movie absolutely fine!! What's Happening?? Pls Help!! Thanks

    As a cynical person who hasn't much experience with pre-fabbed machines, maybe they don't want you to do such a thing yourself; they'd rather want you to pay one of their technicians to do it for you, heh.

    Did you try booting the computer with the disc in the drive instead of Windows Explorer? Change the BIOS boot order so it'll read from the cd before the hard drive and try that way out.

    Optical Drive is set to boot as first drive but still it doesn't help!! anymore suggestions pls?

    What kind of XP CDs are you using? Microsoft full install? Upgrade? OEM recovery?

    I Believe these are full installation cds but hey i inserted windows 7 dvd to check and it not only boots but shows it in the windows too!!

    What I'm asking is when it's booting, do you see a message saying something like:
    "Press a key to boot from CD"?
    If you do, press a key then and go from there. Unless I'm mistaken and you already did that. If so what exactly happened? And if for some reason it didn't work, take everything else but the drive that your disc is in out of the boot order and what happens then? I'd say if it doesn't work at that point something's wrong with the CD.

    No Sir It Never Gave me that Message of Press a Key To Boot From Cd!! M Giving Up on It But I Do Appreciate Your Kind Efforts!! Thanks

    Just To add, I Burned Xp Iso To Dvd and It Now Boots and starts setting up the windows but fails to detect my hard drive now
