    Need help finding parts and case for computer I'm building


    Here are the parts I am working with (parts I bought and will be using in my new PC).

    Graphics card (EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX+) -

    CPU (Intel Core 2 Quad) -

    (I'm thinking of upgrading to an Intel Core i7. Let me know if this is an issue)

    The connection from the speakers are 1/4" cables, and they run to an interface, then that interface runs to my computer via USB. I wasn't sure if this is the best setup for using these speakers with a computer, or if I could find a sound card that would support them? Please let me know.

    I need help finding a motherboard, an outer case, and anything else you could recommend. I'm thinking of buying a solid state HDD, let me know your opinion on them. Thanks for any help given!

    I'm confused. Most of the components that you list are "deactivated" at Newegg: old, and no longer for sale. (Also, OCZ is getting out of the RAM business, if they aren't completely out yet.) Do you already have these parts from some other source?

    There are still motherboards for sale at Newegg that support Core 2 Quad CPUs and DDR2. USe the "power search" function. I have no personal recommendations.

    If you wish to go with an I7 CPU, you wouldn't be able to use a Socket 775 motherboard (as needed for the Q6700). The I7 comes in Socket 1366, 1156, 1155, and 2011. (I list them in the order they came to market.) You'd also need DDR3 RAM.

    If you'd like to build a system based on current components, I'd suggest an I5-2500k, a Z68 (Socket 1155) motherboard, 4 or 8 GB of DDR3-1333 RAM, and a more up-to-date graphics card like a Radeon HD 6850 or nVidia 560ti based one.

    As regards the sound, most motherboards come with onboard sound. Many of them support 7.1 analog sound. The analog jacks are typically 1/8" (like for earbuds), so you'd need an adapter cable to use the 1/4" plugs on the speakers. (I'm surprised that they don't use RCA jacks, but I don't know much about audio.) Example:

    Since you mention upgrading to the Core i7 processor, the PSU and video card you should have no problems with.
    You might as well upgrade your RAM to DDR3, since it's cheap, now.
    I'd recommend a Z68 motherboard to go with the i7 processor.
    The case depends upon how much you're willing to spend and how much cooling you want.

    yes go with ddr3 i just bought 8 gigs of pc8500 ddr3 ram for less than 40 bucks

    Good choice on case, processor, and SSD.

    You don't need anywhere near a 650 watt power supply for that setup. I'd drop back to 500 watts. Corsair, XFX, or Seasonic brands.

    I'd probably try to steer you to other RAM brands--Corsair, Crucial, or G Skill.
