Another bad HDD? "device not ready"

I hope this isn't a futile situation, but I had a failing (I thought) 1TB HDD, so I got a new 2TB seagate HDD. I attached the hard drive, got it on the system, it was recognized and initialized, and copied the files over.
I checked everything to make sure it was good, wiped the other drive and removed. it.
Then, the next day when I turned the computer back on, I couldn't see the new hard drive. I switched connections, power plugs, nothing. Then after several tries, I got it to show up.
The problem is that it says that it needs to be initialized again, and when I try, it says "device not ready" and closes.
Am I up a creek with a new bad drive? Or could it be something else. I can't help but wonder if the problem isn't the PSU or the MSI motherboard, though neither is over a year old.
Any suggestions?

I think you may just be being impatient with the larger HDD's...1 and 2T is pretty big...if you swap connections the process starts over again.

Check to see if Indexing is turned on for the Drive in Disk Management...you can turn it off and see if it becomes more responsive...

The problem is that when the computer sees the device in Disk Manager, the only option is to initialize it, and it says "device not ready" when I try.
When I first set it up, I initialized it and used it. The next time, it wasn't seen at all.
I think it's spinning up; I tested it by running the computer with only that hard drive, and got a splash screen from the manufacturer. Maybe I can reformat and try again, but that would send the 1TB of programs I put on the drive into the aether.

OK, I tried at 15 min, then 30, then 1 hr, then 2. How long do the large drive take. The disk is seen in Disk Management, I just can't get it initialized. I will check the indexing thing now.

I couldn't find the indexing option in Disk Management.

I still have the old drive, but since I thought that it was failing, I got the data off as soon as the new drive arrived. It worked out of the box, and long enough to transfer the data. But...
I can get the new drive to show in Disk Management now, but I cannot get it to initialize. I am looking at sending it back now.
