Dead freeagent go external hard drive... how to fix?

    Dead freeagent go external hard drive... how to fix?


    Put in my external, not found by windows 7, tried grc spinrite, not found and it couldn't read the drive, tried hp format tool, not found.

    any other advice?

    First, try another cord. Also jiggle the cord and push on the connectors to attempt a more positive connection. See if that brings the drive to life on the system.

    Try plugging the drive intro another USB port, preferably one of the ports connected directly to the motherboard. The most common problem with these portable drives is poor connections and/or poor power supply through the USB port or cable.

    You can pull the drive out of the case and then connect it to a PC (desktop) using standard power and SATA connectors. This will test to see if the drive is good and if there is a problem with the interface in the case.

    Thanks, I just opened it up and I ditched the free agent case the port was bad but the hard drive works fine a s the hard drive connected directly to my ex dock by Kingston is very slow so I see how much a upgrade esata was but I'm going to get a external dock from newegg and put it back in a case, thanks for all the help.
