    Need advice on upgrading RAM

Hello to all. I was just planning to upgrade my RAM from 2gb to 4 gb or even 8gb. And I just want to ask...

1.) Can I even upgrade the RAM in my laptop(see attachment)?

2.) And second, what brand(of RAM) I should buy or avoid if I buy?

    THANK YOU

    Go here with that machine:

RAM Memory Upgrade: Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq. USB drives, SSD at Crucial.com

It will sniff the PC and advise you. It's virtually always correct. I'd trust it.

I looked for your Samsung model at Crucial directly and couldn't find it, but the "sniffer" may find it.

    Good brands:

Crucial, Corsair, G Skill, Mushkin, Kingston

THANK YOU for your reply sir... May I ask another question, when I was searching the web for RAM I came across an article that say that 32-bit window 7 has a limit of 4gb RAM so does it mean that if I put 8gb of RAM in my laptop, I can only utilizes 4gb of it or so???

    THANK YO AGAIN

You will only be able to use about 3.2 or 3.3 GB or RAM if you have 32-bit Windows.

But maybe you rarely need more than that anyway? I have only 4 in a 64-bit system and very rarely use more than 3.

People get 8 with 64-bit mostly because RAM is so cheap, not because they "need" it.

I'm guessing you have 2 slots and only 1 is being used?

The new RAM stick does not have to be the same brand, but it must be the same type, with very similar specifications.

Your friend's RAM may or may not work, depending on what it is. If it is not the same type, it won't even fit in the slot.

If it fits in the slot, it still may not work. All you can do is try.

Ideally, you would buy 2 new sticks of exactly the same type and specifications. But I would try another single stick if I could, to save money.
