Ah thanks for that essenbe I was wondering if the straight SSD's would fit the laptop actually. I will have to get onto my usual supplier to find out what go is with that.

Now the post is quite short on this one but the time taken from power on to password is a long winded affair and I am guessing it is the clutter that Toshiba has on the machine. Now I know someone will say clear it out but I have no idea of what is essential for the machine to work - thats why I thought a clean install would benefit me.
I have read that some laptops need a spacer for the SSD and some are fitted to only accept a 7mm thick drive. I put one in my Samsung laptop and my Daughter's Dell and had no problems with spacers or thickness in either one. So, it just may depend on the brand of laptop.
Ok I'll take a peek at the drive tonight if I get chance and take somemeasurements.

What does that mean - you lost your Email. I never keep emails on my system. They are all at AOL's systems. They manage them much better than I ever could. I never lost a single one - in many years.

Um you have me at another disadvantage there whs I will have to look up what AOL's are, and transferring my "User" from the SSD to the E: drive left me with an WLM service that would not start up from the taskbar.

The laptop is a Toshiba L550 Satelitte and the original Toshiba (I think is a Hitachi) is quite small 100x72x10mm and short of the opening and one gets the feeling that it could move around a bit during carrying - maybe the cause of some of the problems I have had with this machine?

Unfortunately I cannot help you here. I never used any Windows mail. Wrestling with PoP3s and alike is not my kind of sport.

I got a free AOL account years ago and all my mail is at their server. Never have to worry when I move from system to system (which I have already done a dozen times), never lost my mail and there was never a problem with any malware.

I do not use the other AOL facilities (and there are a lot). But e.g. their browser is too slow for me. My wife uses only AOL - can't even get her to use the IE. But she is more patient than me.

Hum whs I am probably overly suspicious of everything and anything and doesn't entrusting your emails to AOL bother you? Having said that I suppose I entrust mine to WLM or anyone to Hotmail, Gmail etc etc eh?

Mind you I do object to the setting up of WLM as it is so pedantic and cumbersome as you so rightly point out with POPs and the like.

Perhaps I will give it a try

All I can say is that I never had any problems with AOL in many years. Works for me.
