    Asus X5DC starting up problem

Hi, my mate brought his Asus X5DC laptop which unable to start up. When switch power on it went to normal bios loading as usual, detected RAM, CPU, for HDD it says "3rd Master Hard Disk: S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD, Backup and Replace Press F2 to Resume"
No buttons respond so unable to do anything even to go to BIOS set up. I put HDD to my desktop PC and everything seems all right, fire up without any problems.
So what has gone wrong and maybe what I need to look at to sort it out.
    Thanks a lot.

Sounds like the HDD has a problem and needs to be replaced

Here's a quick rundown on SMART technology S.M.A.R.T

Is SMART turned on with the other PC ?
SMART technology will only report a impending problem. Which means although the HDD can be read on your PC, it could be failing which is why the Asus pc is reporting a problem
