Mouse not responding accordingly to usage

I have an issue about the mouse acting on its own. I've check some other threads but they seem mostly from people on laptops so it mostly rounds around the trackpad etc... I'm using a desktop and I don't know since when did the mouse suddenly works on its own.

Some issues that i find happening often is:
- mouse would automatically raise volume to max or to minimum since i use volumouse to adjust the volume. uninstalling it didn't change anything.
- mouse would automatically "right click" and make a huge translucent rectangle.
- mouse would suddenly not work at all and cant click anything though the keyboard still works
- mouse would suddenly have different actions for the left button like when i open a new tab in a browser and select that tab, upon clicking with left button it will suddenly close that tab instead of selecting it
- mouse would auto scroll up and down (mostly down) on anything i'm reading or browsing
probably few others but i cant remember now

I've re-installed windows many times but it would soon come back to doing things on its own. I'm virus free on this PC with Avast and a USB virus scanner. Mouse is a PS/2 connection and new or old mouse still has the same problem. I see nothing suspicious in task manager so i really don't know why this is happening. A possibility is in a program or something i've installed but i have no idea what since all the programs i installed seems rather known to most of us. View image: programs

Try booting up in Safe Mode and see if you have a problem.

I see a lot of programs I'm not familiar with.

If you do not have the problem in Safe Mode

• Run msconfig/startup and turn off everything non essential...don't turn off your security programs.
• Re-boot, and if the problem is gone, start re-enabling your startup programs to try and find which one(s) cause the issue.

You should also check for malware and viruses with more than one program.

could you tell me more about Safe-Mode? i'm not very familiar as in what that does.

About the programs maybe i should list a few of them for what they do.
-Canon etc...: are drivers for my scanner
-Classic shell: is a program to customize the explorer

The rest seems to be well known i suppose

As for startup programs i have:
-volumouse
-unikey
-windowspace
-usb threat defender
-avast antivirus
-task manager

Safe Mode starts Windows with the minimum drivers,programs,etc. of what is needed to run Windows.

To boot into Safe Mode keep taping the F8 key while your PC is booting.
It should bring up a screen with a list of boot options.
Choose "Safe Mode with networking" using your keyboard.

As far as your list of programs, that is why i said i never have seen many of them...
One or more of them might cause your problem.

Some of your programs may also include a start-up SERVICE that is a problem.
But that would be "phase 2"...start with the simplest approach.

I will try safe-mode and see how things go.
As for services it would rather be the opposite. could be something i turned off that i may not know of. i'm more of a performance user so i do go gathering info on how to disable many things not needed.

i cant really tell if all the problems still occur in safe-mode since there was no audio to tell if volume auto changed but while in safe-mode the mouse did automatically draw a translucent rectangle and the mouse went unclickable so im guessing that something is also wrong in safe-mode as well. another weird thing is that on the desktop itself i can left or right click but if i hover it over the taskbar or any program i cant click anything. the mouse just doesnt work at all in those sections sometimes. so ya, in safe-mode i could say i still get these problems

From what you say the problems are there even in Safe Mode.
That pretty much shoots my theory.
If you have disabled MS services, no telling what problems might occur.
But, this really doesn't sound like a problem caused by disabling any services.
It doesn't sound like a hardware problem to me.

Personally I wouldn't rule out malware...This seems like the most likely cause to me.

Do you have a restore point you can go back to from before these problems?

As you've re-installed windows many times, you are familiar with that.

If it was me I would:

• Re-install Windows
• Install Security App(s)
• Apply MS Updates
• Create a backup Image of the system
• Start installing your programs - keep an eye on if/when the problems start
• After you have all programs installed create another backup image (assuming there are no issues)

When you have a clean System and create a backup image you can always restore the image to avoid re-installing Windows.
You can also create backup images as often as you like to be able to restore your system to that point in time.
You will need a different HD or partition than the OS Partition (C) to create an Image.

Maybe someone else will post with other/better ideas...

I have actually tried your method.
Usually after a fresh install i'd let windows update itself then i'd customize few settings in windows before i actually install any programs.
It's actually a real pain to monitor every single program at a time to find out which one brings the problems but i guess i'll have to do it carefully next time.
For imaging i use Acronis backup but usually i backup once i have all programs installed so once the problems occurs it's actually pointless for me to restore from the image so i'd just reinstall windows.

About security, other than Avast that i'm currently using, would you recommend any other programs? I'm not really familiar in the adware, malware protection stuff.

You said you tested different mice but they were both PS/2, right?
Can you test with a USB mouse?
A long shot, but maybe it's a PS/2 problem with your motherboard.

I understand about "a real pain to monitor every single program"...
That's why i suggest creating a backup image after getting Windows updated and before starting to install your programs.
That way you can restore a "Clean Vanilla" OS if a program causes problems.

You could also install your programs in "Groups" instead of one at a time and test them.
Install perhaps 5 at a time, and do some testing.
That could narrow it down quicker if a program is the issue.

When i build a new PC, that's my approach.
I may create several images per day initially, and re-install Windows more than once to get a clean "start-up point".
It is time consuming, but to me it's worth it to know I have a clean install image i can depend on and restore.

As far as security, you will get many different opinions.

What's the Best Anti-virus?

IMHO the most important part of security is the user.
- use torrents, visit dodgy websites, open unknown emails/links, etc. ???
- No security program is 100% at preventing viruses or malware.

There are many free anti malware programs that are recommended and well regarded.
I suggest Malwarebytes free for on-demand scanning.
Personally, i use the paid version for the real-time protection.
