ive just finaished changing my cpu from a amd phenomII 965be to a fx6100. i was under the impression that my motherboard waas fully ready for the bulldozers. ive checked the gigabyte website and its in the supported cpu section. or am i gonna have to flashe the bios? never done it b4 but iknow to use qflash but thats aboutit.
any help will be much apreciated. thanks in advance

What is your BIOS version? The FX6100 CPU is supported, but only with Bios version FGf (or newer). If your version is only FB, then you currently do not have support for that processor.
You can upgrade the BIOS version (if necessary) by downloading it from here: GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3+ - GA-880GA-UD3H (rev. 3.1)
WarningFlashing your BIOS is a risky business that can potentially leave you with an unbootable system. Always follow any given instructions explicitly. Remember that, should you choose to do it, you do so at your own risk.

thanks for the super quick reply. my bios is the one it came out the factory with FE. i thought as it said that the board is backward compatible then the support would be there lol. ahwell tis my own fault for not checking first
ive just taken the bulldozer back out and installin the 965 again. tis a pain in the ass lol.
i will read up first but is qflash pretty simple? my board has a dual bios anyway so should be ok :d

I've never flashed my motherboard BIOS, so I can't comment on how easy or hard it is. For a guide on how to do this, take a look at the documents on this page and remember to follow the instructions to the letter should you decide to take the plunge.

Anytime you ever upgrade a processor, that's the very first thing you check...to see if a BIOS update is required to recognize the processor. The steps should be straight forward, though. Put in your old proc...flash the BIOS, and then pop in your new proc.
Gigabyte makes the process easy, and even offers a Windows app to download and install the BIOS.
yup ive put the old one bk in and am just about to download the bios. as for its the first thing u check. i did lol i just didnt read it properly.
time for some battlefield now tho

edit: ive heard about updating the bios through that windows app and that its a big no no. im happy enough using Qflash.
edit;2 sorry if its a dumb question but after extractin the zip file. do i put the folder containing the bios onto the usb or just the files in the folder??

I would re read the instructions. They should tell you that in detail. I have never flashed a Gigabyte bios. But in the other boards you right click the zip file and extract them to the usb. It should also tell you how to format the USB (usually FAT32). All of that info should be in the instructions in your manual or the documentation Dwarf gave you the link to.

i ve read the instructions aswell as checked a couple of vids. ive already extracted the the downloaded folder to usb. the only reason i asked was because there r 2 more files in the folder with the bios update.
no worries il leav the 3 files in the folder and if it doesn't see the bios then i'll do it again the other way.
i do read all the links and info given plenty. untill im 100% sure im doing things right. im not one of them lazy fkrs who come on forums and expect people to do all the work for me. over the past 16 months ive learned a hell of a lot and its all because of help ive recieved on seven forums. for this i am really greatfull

ive just found a more complete guide to Qflash which comfirmed that its just the one file needed from the folder. the others r for updating in DOS

Whoever told you that has very little experience flashin a BIOS. Many OEMs, like Dell, only offer a Windows app.
The point they are failing to tell you is this. The flashing isn't done inside of Windows. The new BIOS file is verified to ensure compatibility, and then it is moved to the motherboard's memory. The system is then rebooted, so the flashing can happen, and then it boots back into Windows, usually with a confirmation message telling you it was successful. No boot disks to worry about, yet the overall process is identical.
The Gigabyte app, @Bios, I believe, will download and verify the new BIOS file for you ahead of time, so there's no issues.
