Hello quagmiire and welcome to Seven Forums. First realize that anytime you have a power outage or surge almost any component of a computer can be damaged. But, if I understand correctly, you can boot the installation disk and it can see your hard drive. If there is data on the drive you want to get off, you can try to
copy and paste from the recovery console. But your drive will have to be readable by Windows. To format your disk, try this method to
optimize a hard drive for installation. If you don't have an SSD you need not worry about the alignment portion of the tutorial. Try those things and get back with us and let us see your progress.
