Some audio discs not detected. Help!

    Here's the problem...

I've recently purchased a new Advent computer, so it's pretty much brand new. I've had to take it back to the store for a replacement ASUS CM1740 because I've had the same problem on both machines!

Some officially made audio CDs aren't detected by the drive (E), they do not appear in My Computer and when the drive is double clicked it simply asks me to insert a disc. The same discs fail to work on both machines, so it looks like it's not software nor hardware that's causing the problem (but idk for sure). I've tried everything I can think of (re-installing drives, changing the Drive letter, trying CDs in other devices like CD player, laptop etc)

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and my DVD/CD drive is a ATAPI DVD A DH24ABS, there are also two disk drives, a Generic Multicard USB Device and a WDC WD20EARX-00PASBO ATA Device.

What exactly do you mean by "officially made audio CDs".
Are they discs made by the record company?

Yeah they are ones made professionally so to speak, wasn't sure how to phrase it.

    Didn't work unfortunately!

It said the disc wasn't supported, was damaged or was upsidedown.

Are the discs clean and free of scratches?

The multiple discs I've tried differ from being new to having some light scratches, however some with scratches work and some don't, likewise some without scratches will not work etc. I have tried a disc that doesn't work and has scratches on in a CD player and a Laptop and it worked perfectly.

Looks like the problem is solved for now! Replaced the DVD Drive with an older one I had from another machine I had. Fixed the problem! It seems that however unlikely, I was given a faulty ATAPI drive twice in a row! Either that or that type of drive sucks in general.
