After Win 7 Serv Pack 1 install, USB drives not recognized, Err Code 1

I installed Windows 7 service pack 1 this morning and the USB disk drives are no longer recognized:

Generic Compact Flash USB Device - This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1) The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Generic MS/MS-Pro USB Device - This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1) The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Generic SD/MMC USB Device - This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1) The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Generic SM/xD-Picture USB Device - This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1) The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

I have searched the web for these error codes, with no success. Do you know of a fix?

Hi Robert and welcome to SevenForums,

There are a huge slew of updates to Service Pack 1. The first thing you should do is install those by running Windows update until it is completely up-to-date. If your USB devices still do not work after these updates, then please follow the suggestions in this tutorial:

I ran Windows Update and completed all updates. I performed the steps at the web link you kindly provided two times. Everything worked as described. This is the result (see attached `USB_not_recognized`).

In Device Manager, I now get the following new errors:

Generic Compact Flash USB Device - This device is not configured correctly. (Code 32) The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Generic MS/MS-Pro USB Device - A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)

Generic SD/MMC USB Device - A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)

Generic SM/xD-Picture USB Device - A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)

SandDisk Cruzer Micro USB Device - This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1) The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

    Any additional recommendations?
