HP all-in-one printer installation problem in W7 Home Premium

I installed the HP J5508 offficejet all-in-one printer software in my new samsung laptop having W7 Home Premium 64 bit.

The problem is whenever I unplug the printer, it disappears from the printers list and whenever I plug it back (usb 3), the computer automatically installs the software again after searching for the latest software. This process takes more than 5 minutes and is annoying.

    Any fix for this?

Why do you keep unplugging the computer from the printer? It is normal for windows to try to install a driver when a peripheral (printer) is connected. If everything is working fine. Just tell it no.

Or are you having issues with the printer?

    Try reinstalling the printer software.

Make sure the printer is off while installing the software until you are prompted to turn the printer on to complete the install.

What are you using for software, version, etc?

It's a laptop. So I need to unplug the printer.

The software was the latest that was downloaded from the HP site. Yes, the printer was plugged only when the software asked for it.

As for windows installing software every time I plugged it in, this was not the case with my other laptops with W7 Professional and XP Professional.

Ok, I think quickdraw was only asking you why you were unplugging it. I'm sure he knows what a laptop is.

That said, some people use a laptop like a desktop. meaning they don't move it.

I agree with quickdraw, you should fully remove the printer software and reinstall it. The printer driver may be installed in the wrong location.

Also, check in device manager for problems. Before you reinstall the printer software.

I have uninstalled and installed the driver twice. Device manager does not show any issues.

Ok. I connected the printer to the USB 2.0 port and the software again installed by itself. But now when I unplug the printer usb, the printer stays in the printers list (with off-line indication). When I plugin the printer, no more re-installation of software crap.

My previous installations were in other two USB 3.0 ports and both of them had the installed printer disappearing upon unplugging the printer.

So this is a USB 2.0 vs USB 3.0 issue ? Is this to be expected ?
