try Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup as well. so disable all "non microsoft services" and "startup items" temporary.

Does that make any difference?

Working ISO is 2.5gb (only chose it becuase it was quite small so quicker to copy)
Smallest non working ISO is 5.3gb

Smallest non working ISO is 5.3gb
  1. make a testfolder: C:\testfolder
  2. copy the working ISO to that folder. Name it test.iso (I assume it still copies nicely)
  3. open a command prompt
Code:
C:
CD \testfolder
copy/b test.iso+test.iso large.iso
now you have a file c:\testfolder\large.iso try to copy that file

you could also do
Code:
copy/b test.iso+test.iso+test.iso large.iso
To make it even bigger.

also you can copy the working ISO to another partition and do the same trick to make it larger. Copy the large file on that partition to some other folder on same partition.

Is the problem partition related?

I used the first one (so ended up about 5.6gb) and it copied fine to another folder on the same hard drive and fine again to the main partition on the other hard drive.
Just attempting to copy the non-working ISO file to a different partition on the second hard drive.

Same error when transferring to a different partition.

So some ISO files don't copy successfully from C:\folderA to F:\folderB
So at least 1 ISO file does succesfully copy from C:\folderA to F:\folderB

Are you very sure you use SAME folder names for both copy tests?
Failing ISO is smaller than working ISO?

Sure the working ISO copies fine all the time, so it's not a coincidence?

  • So not a folder problem.
  • So not a partition problem.
  • Not a file problem. 3 ISO files with bad blocks is very unlikely.
  • Even renaming ISO to TXT doesn't fix it. So not a filename problem.
Very very strange! Try safe mode and clean startup

Copying files problem?
Hi, Well, when I copy files on my external HDD, it's going fast, until the 1st file is done, after the 1st file, it doesn't really freeze, but stops for like 4-6 secs, and then it suddenly moves on again, with low transfer speed which increases. This happens for each file e.g. and so on...
