Missing space on new 120 GB ssd

I have an out of the box 120 gig Intel SSD which is saying I currently have 57.9 GB free of 96.6 GB. (I can account for what space I have used, this is not the problem).

The problems is that while I understand the drive will have some space reduction meaning not all 120 GB is useable but 23.4 GB is a bit much, no??

Try clicking start, right click computer, select manage. In the left column select disk management. Find your SSD and the C partition, right click it and select extend partition. The message it gives should extend the partition to the remainder of the drive.

1TB of HDD space missing completely
My laptop has a 2TB hard drive, but a few months ago over half of it completely vanished. Windows explorer shows that my C drive is now only 911GB. I have a strange problem with my wife's desktop: when I query the size of c:\windows, it tells me there is 17GB's worth of files, but when I go into the folder and query everything, one by one, it only adds up to rather less than 10GB. And I am pretty sure I have displayed invisible as well as...
