Mouse and Keyboard not working at login

This is my first build and I have not had any problem with it until this. The mouse and keyboard work in the Bios, but once it gets to the log in screen there is a pointer in the middle but nothing works. I had just installed the software for the keyboard from the Kensington website and it told me to re-boot. So that is what I did, now nothing works. After I noticed it had froze, I had to hold the power button on the tower to shut it down. I tried doing safe mode, but that made no difference. Legacy is activated in the bios and it sees the UBS mouse and keyboard. Here are the specs for the PC:
(Keyboard) Kensington Pro Fit Wired Media Keyboard K72407US USB Wired
(Mouse) Pixxo MO-I133UR Red 3 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB Wired Optical 80

(OS) Windows 7 Home Premium x64
    (CPU) AMD FX-6100
    (Motherboard) BIOSTAR TA970XE
    (Memory) G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB)
(Graphics Card) GIGABYTE GV-R777D5-1GD Radeon HD 7770 GHz
(Monitor) ASUS VH232H Glossy Black 23" 5ms Widescreen Full HD 1080p
    (Hard Drives)
    Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB (HDD)
Mushkin Enhanced Chronos MKNSSDCR60GB 60GB (SSD)
(PSU) OCZ Fatal1ty 750W Modular Gaming 80Plus Bronze
    (Case) AZZA Solano 1000R
(Cooling) ZALMAN CNPS9900MAX-R 135mm Long life bearing CPU Cooler

I know most of that isn't really necessary to fixing the problem, but it's there anyway.

Please help. I tried doing a system restore, but for some reason my backup disk is not being seen (even though the reader is) and since I got the OEM version of Win7 I don't think I can just re-install it.

    having same problem..

havent had any luck, just starting freezing randomly after everything was working properly.

keyboard/mouse work in bios, usb ports are powering properly since my phone will charge through them, external fan working.
currently running Windows Defender Offline to see if its a possible virus? seems to be running fine, with use of keyboard/mouse on that screen.

still cant find any good links for this problem yet.

The mouse and keyboard may be failing to be detected because of the following reasons:
Their ports have failed. Those may be the either the mouse and keyboard ports or the ports on the computer where the mouse and keyboards are connected. You may therefore need to replace those ports just in case they have worn out completely.
It may also be a temporary failure of the two devices, and therefore you should try restarting the computer and see if they will resume working.
You may also need to check the device manager and make sure the USB drivers have been installed for their absence might be the other possible cause of the problem. There is a way to resolve the issue that should work for you, although it is somewhat risky. If you perform a hard shutdown, and run in safe mode, and then while it s loading the drivers and registry files perform a hard shutdown again it will allow you to select an option to run based on the last successful configuration. Your mouse and keyboard should work now. The problem is with your USB drivers, but to this day I have still not been able to find a permanent fix for the driver issue...
