I thought I had a bad video card installed in my computer so i went out and bought another one, guess what i had the same problems you did, how i fixed this. I removed the CMOS battery for five minutes, then tried again and bingo the default settings removed any settings that affected the display and was able to boot my computer. Have you tried this?

What I'd like to see you do Bleu is some basic diagnostics:

(Computer off)
  • Disconnect all external devices including keyboard and mouse.
  • Disconnect (both power and data cables) all drives.
  • Disconnect the case USB headers.
  • Remove all add on cards (sound Cards, etc.).
  • Remove the video card.
  • Remove all the RAM.
  • Only the Power Supply, Motherboard, and Processor installed.

Double check your processor installation. Double check the instructions in your manual. Be sure the fan and heatsink are seated correctly. If you used the stock Intel heatsink it would have had a circle of thermal compound on it already. If you are using a custom heatsink and fan be certain you applied thermal compound correctly. Be sure the heatsink is connected positively.

Before you switch the PC on you could perform the Clear CMOS again. Can't hurt, might help.

Now turn the PC on. It should beep like mad: the "NO RAM" beep code. This is good. It shows that the processor and motherboard are working.

Shut off, then add ONE stick of RAM in the first RAM slot (A1 usually). Start the PC again. More beeping. "No Video" beep code. This is good.

Shut off, then install the video card in the first PCI-e x16 slot, connect power cables, and connect the monitor. Start the PC again. You should get no beeping and hopefully something on the screen.

If it still gives a "No Signal" message then shut down and install the video card in the second PCI-e x16 slot and test again.

Do this methodically. Do not rush or get impatient. Do not install the additional RAM until you are done with the diagnostic.

Let us know the results.

I am purchasing a Lenovo TS130 1105 as a cheap home media/backup server. I already have a couple of 2TB drives that I would like use in this but as far...

Brand X vs Brand Y RAM
I'm fairly comfortable with most aspects of choosing RAM, except as defined by the title of this thread. How important is it if choosing between two brands, if the specs are otherwise equal to each other? Also, some fairly obscure brands of RAM are made with chips from major sources....which...
