My DVD Rom does not read content on discs

I own a Toshiba satellite C660- 14H (Windows 7). Recently I just discovered my dvd rom sees all inserted discs as blank. I thought it was a problem with my DVD ROMís optical lenses so I got an external dvd rom but it also reads all discs as blank when they are not. Can anyone help?

Do you have any kind of disc burning software installed? How about any virtual drive software?

Try the Microsoft Fixit solution and check whether it helps. http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd...problems/en-us

I have done the Microsoft fix it troubleshooting. All it says is the DVD drive cannot read the disc. I have also uninstalled nero. Still no solution.

What is the error code you get in the Device Manager for your optical drive?

(Device Manager > DVD/CD-ROM drives > your optical drive > Properties > General)

I have this with some discs. I think the drive is dying or has a short life. You could buy another or if you don't use it much just ignore it.

WIN | type DEVMGMT.MSC |

Are there any items marked with a red X?

Is there an entry for DVD/CD-ROM drives?

WIN=key with microsoft logo on top.

a big help will be if you fluff out those system specs. Use Speccy.

Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec
(left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

Add the word laptop or desktop or netbook to the
“system manufacturer” block, for example,
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

: There are no error codes. It says the device is working properly

I did that before. I bought an external disk drive. It also shows any disk loaded as blank

Why won't my DVD RW drive (D) read blank discs?
This just started happening recently and I don't know why. I am using the same discs that have worked before and everything looks good in device manager. It tells me my driver is up to date and working properly. It will read older discs that I've put files on but when I try to make a DVD it just...

My optic driver won't read discs.
Ok, so I've been reading around and searching for a bit, but so far nothing has helped. My optic drive simply won't start "spinning", reading, any discs. Other than that all is normal. When I insert for example a CD-rom the icon for the drive changes to a basic CD-rom icon, it's like it can feel...

DVD Drive can't read Windows 7 Discs
I have just bought Windows 7 Pro, I initially had a problem with XP reading the disc, and read up to find that enabling autorun works to allow the disc to be read, this worked and I installed Windows 7. Now that it is installed, I can't read the Windows 7 disc (32 or 64 bit discs) with the new...

UDF DVD discs windows 7 can't read
Hi, I have some steam games that I want to back up onto DVD as some took ages to download; now I know any files larger that 2gb will not work on an ISO dvd disc so I tried this on a UDF dvd disc. I have used both Nero (and verified the contents afterwards) and windows 7 x64 own recorder. Both...
