Intel X3100 Gpu and other Graphics Help

Hello, I'm new here and was told to start a topic here instead of in general descusion. I run a Lenovo thinkpad r61 15.4' laptop with 1,256mb ram and intel x3100 graphics which says it can support up to 384mb of video graphics. I have a question that i'm trying to get help on, my card only says 256mb. So I'm wondering if that due to having 1gb of ram in one slot and 256mb in the other slot. Is it just using ram from the 256mb slot ? So would taking the 256 out and falling back to 1gb ram improve the graphics ? I havent found any information on that issue and only know that having 2gb of ram can get the card to reach its prime. I just thought I'd ask, I've updated my card to the new driver and cant find any newer one that what I have already. Anyway thanks
