In The Market For A New Laptop - Opinions Needed

Hello, everybody! Let me begin by saying that I just joined these forums and this is going to be my first post, so I hope it is being posted in the correct category. Thank you for taking the time to check out my post!

Well, as the title says, I am in the market for a new laptop which I plan on buying in the next few days (on Wednesday, to be precise) but I don't know much about processors and other general specs, so I'd like to ask for opinions on the machine that has my eye at this moment.

Here is a link to the laptop: https://www.aarons.com/p-484-173-phenom-x2-laptop.aspx

In case you don't trust the link, or don't feel obligated to follow the provided link, I will post a few of the specs below:

17.3" HP Phenom X2
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Premium AMD Phenom II Dual-Core Mobile Processor
LED Display; ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 Graphics w/ 128MB Display
4GB DDR3
500GB Storage
Blu-Ray Compatible w/ Beats Audio

In asking for opinions, obviously you'll be curious of what I plan on doing on this machine, so I'll tell you about that below:

Quote:
Web Surfing
Obviously I'll be using this laptop for the basic web surfing for this, including social sites, email, a bit of video watching (YouTube and Netflix), etc.

Typing Documents
I like to write so I plan on typing up quite a few documents over the course of having this laptop. I'll be typing small documents in Microsoft Works and Notepad, including poetry and short stories as well as some school stuff.

Multimedia
I'll be storing quite a bit of multimedia files, including photos, music, and videos, probably about 10GB in total.

Basic Gaming
I will be playing some really basic games. The heaviest game I'll be playing is Minecraft. Besides that, a few emulators (GBA and DS, mostly).
I posted this thread in hopes of getting some useful feedback on this laptop since I'm sure most of you are pretty tech-savvy when it comes to computer specs. Thank you for taking your time to read this post.

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

I tried the link you posted, but it appears to be a dead 'un.

However, from the information you've posted, you'll have no problem doing what you suggest with the computer you have your eye on.

All I would say is, either buy direct from the manufacturer or a reputable reseller as I'd hate to see you getting caught out on Amazon or eBay. Also, pay particular attention to warranty periods and if you're offered the chance to buy a recovery disc with the machine, please do so.

Aaron's is where I'm considering purchasing this laptop; it is $100/month for about 8 months, and it is under warranty for as long as you're still paying it. Also, the last time I bought a laptop from Aaron's, it included a bag with all the necessary pre-installed program discs, including the Windows disc! And I wouldn't dream of buying a laptop off of eBay or Amazon.

Also, I fixed the link in case you're still interested. I have no idea what happened before.

Well, being this side of the pond, I have no idea whether the reseller you've chosen is reliable, but if their website is anything to go by, you should be fine.

Am I right in assuming you're buying under a lease-type plan? If so, 8 months is not a particularly good warranty period. Companies such as Dell and HP will offer at least a year, sometimes more if you haggle. The last Dell that I bought came with a free two-year warranty.

Yes, it is a lease-to-own plan. Basically, I pay the first month (which is $100) and I bring it home. Then, I pay $100/month until it is paid off.

And I believe Aaron's can provide further warranty if you choose to pay a little extra, which I'll probably do if given the opportunity.

I'm not purchasing from the site, it's just the information for the laptop; I've already called and discussed price and such, I'll be heading to a local store (about a mile or two from my house) to pick it up where I can potentially fiddle with one on display before purchasing. I am buying it new, too.
