I'm installing TCP/IP Printer... no communication but error printing..

I am attempting to add a TCP/IP printer to a desktop. I used the set of instructions using, add a printer, create a port, TCP/IP, enter in the IP address of the printer, and the system never finds the printer. It just says, 'device is not found on the network'.

    Is there another step?

My question is also in regard to the physical connections on the printer and computer. Currently, I have the ethernet cable going from the printer to the wall ethernet data port. Is this correct?

I guess this printer is not a network printer since I used the IP address rather then searching for it on the network. Did I do everything correct? Any ideas?

well first, can you ping its ip address?

Are the network settings on the printer correctly configured?

The wall ethernet leads to what? a switch?

On the computer where you want to use printing function, install the drivers of the printer and then try to search again.

Bingo. You asked the right question.

Well, it turned out that I did in fact ping the IP address and it timed out all 4 times. So, no communication. Later someone advised me that since the printer was brought over from another location, it still contained the former IP address and needed to be assigned a new one. So, that was the problem.
