    Ejecting Firewire Device

I routinely get the "This device is currently in use" message when I try to eject an external drive from my Win7 64-bit OS. I have no idea what program might be accessing the drive to cause that message. How do I find out? I can, of course, reboot, but that shouldn't be necessary.

This message does not appear with USB drives.

    Thanks,

the drive may be 'write caching'--to disable go to 'computer' select drive--right click--select 'properties'--select 'hardware' tab--highlight that specific drive--click 'properties' button lower right--in window that open select 'policies'-choose 'quick removal'

"Quick Removal" is the default setting on the drives I've looked at. I don't think that setting is the issue.

check to see if drive is set to be indexed--it may be indexing, which would take awhile depending on the size of the drive

I have a similar issue, but not with a hard drive- with a firewire audio interface.
