I think my topic went a little in the opposite direction, lol. It is nice to hear opinions from others though.
First of all, if anyone can manage to find a decent priced 1tb HDD, then let me know. So far I found a Seagate 1tb for 85. I'll be buying this tomorrow if I can't find another. Second, is OCZ a good SSD? Third, I'm assuming a 120gb SSD and a 1tb HDD would be good enough for what I want? I'll have my data on the tb, my OS on the SSD as well as a few of my applications. I'm not sure if I want the few games I have on the SSD or HDD. I'll be getting the SSD about a week after Friday so I have some time to decide and see if I find a better price on that as well.
Most people would probably point you to Crucial, Intel, or Samsung SSDs.
120 GB SSD is plenty big enough for most situations, but if you have 20 large games to install, some will probably have to go on the 1 TB HDD.
Windows 7 and 50 random applications probably won't take over 30 or 40 GB.
I was debating to put my games on the tb HDD anyways.
OCZ is fine. I have 3 of them and never had any problems. But there were a couple of models that were defunct. You have to read the reader comments on the Newegg site.
For reliability, Intels are probably the best. I have two 3 year old Intels and they are still going strong. But they are also the most expensive.
Although I own a Crucial M4, I would probably not buy it again. There were some negative reports too.
The last one I bought (from Newegg) is a 60GB Mushkin Chronos for less than $70. It is still sitting on my desk, so I cannot say how it might perform. The 120GB model costs $103. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820226236
That is probably about the best price going right now. A few days ago, NewEgg was running a Samsung 1TB for $79, but they currently $109 for the drive.
Yes, overall they are good drives. I would have some concerns with reliability. My preference is Intel or Corsair.
Maybe, it all depends upon how much data you have to store. Only you will be able to tell.
At the moment I don't even fill much of the failing 640gb hard drive I have.
Well, if you plan on having the same or similar storage needs, and you currently don't fill 640GB, you should be just fine with 1,120GB (assuming you have the 120GB SSD).
