| w7 81 posts | my laptop will not recognize external hdd, but it shows in device mgr? Just bought a new dell inspiron 14z laptop and am trying to install the data from my old laptop's 2.5" hdd. I have enclosed the old hdd in an external hd case (SATA to usb) When the hdd was connected to the new laptop via USB it was not recognized. It did however appear as an external hdd in the new laptop's Device Manager. Tried updating the externals drivers there but it reported drivers for the device are up to date. I attached the external hdd to my desktop, and it was quicly recognized recognized. Any suggestions as to what the problem is?? Thanks for your help |
