    External harddrive recognised but files cant be acessed


    my ciphertex 750gb hard drive is recognized when i plug it in, but the name of the hard drive dose not come up but insted there is "local disk F" and i cant access my files. the drive is also recognized in the disk management, and i have tried changing the disk letter but i cant. pls what can i do because i have a lot of important documents on it. i have also tried it on other systems with the same result.

    this is the screen shot of my disk management window and my computer, the hard drive is the "local disk F"

    Try this:

    Open Device Manager then expand Disk Drives.

    Right-click the drive in question and click Properties.

    Click the Volumes tab then click the Populate button.

    Let the drive information update itself, close Device Manager then check in Disk Management to see whether you can now allocate a drive letter.

    i tried that but i got this error message, i attached a screen shot bellow. whatelse can i do... thanks

    Just do what the message suggests to update the Disk Management console view.

    Click Start.

    Right-click Computer.

    Click Manage.

    Click Disk Management.

    Click More Actions.

    Click Refresh.

    Restart your computer.

    External harddrive recognised but files cant be acessed-ref.jpg

    thanks, i have finally been able to change the drive letter but the drive is now RAW, how can i get my files back?
