    Why Not Acer Laptops?

    Hi everyone,

I might have posted this in the wrong place, in that case im sorry and i ask it to be moved to the appropriate place.

I've understood that Acer offers laptops with incredibly cheap prices, yet many ppl say that Acer is a bad idea. Why? So much great hardware and so cheap?! Why is Acer a bad idea from the laptop perspective itself and NOT things like costumer service etc.

    Thanks
    :)

    Hi mafhh

Ive used Acer laptops for 11 years now and never really had any issues with them.I think its more personal preference.
If I have had an issue like a dead HD last year it was still under warranty and they had the notebook picked up, replaced the HD and back to me in 3 days. As for the price I think you get what you pay for. Im sure there are better names with better hardware out there but will cost you more. I suppose it depends on what you want to use it for.Anyway its +1 for Acer here. Just my opinion.

I've seen some Acer laptops my friends have and they look pretty good and durable to the price. If you find one you like, just grab it :). Although I prefer Asus, also great price but have superior build quality and their products break down the least compared to other manufacturers.

Most of the time people complain about Acer cause they choose the bottom of the barrel line

No real battery life or CPU power

If used correctly like all products it would produce and yeild decent results

I would just look around for that decent cpu ram and cooling -but cooling will always be a issue but some have decent cooling

Also if you could avoid spending below 300.00 would also yeild better results

most top lines or decent Lappys will atleast cost you 500.00 out the gate just my two cents though

Lol I spent 1500 bucks on my laptop... I regret this now (got it Christmas 2009). I should have gotten a gaming desktop and an average laptop (no dedicated GPU or really powerful CPU).

I don't like acer since they and their sub-companies they've bought out are definitely on the lower end, bargain scale of the PC world. The newer models don't seem to be incredibly cheap looking, but from some models I've had to unfortunately work on, their build quality suggests there's some corner cutting. I saw one where the heat sink was way larger for what should be on a processor of that spec and it had little airflow. Generally, you stick a heatsink that can disperse heat appropriately with proper airflow.

Also, their batteries I've seen are balls! But then again, I can't say now since they might have gotten their poop in a group and now have better standards.

I'd recommend going for an HP, especially the Pavilions, they have really nice overall build qualities. Or Asus, the same reason as HP. But remember, you get what you pay for....

Having owned an Acer (wife's laptop), I can say that the machine itself was fine. The only issues I had were
1). No phone support, had to do everything via email
2). Had to ship to Texas to fix a screen which went bad.

Of the several Hundred Acer laptops I've bought over the years I have not had any major issues. This is quite something as these were used in the main for industrial programming and general site terminals so tended to receive a less than gentle life.

Several so called ruggedized units bought on the insistence of clients, did not fair as well, though this may have been a consequence of them being designed for a rough life and thus treated accordingly.

My personal AspireOne netbook is working well after 18 months of hard use, despite the presence of several gouges in the casing illustrating that It has not been cosseted
