I am running W7RTM Pro on my cheap acer extensa 4420 and I am having problems with the mouse. It seems to sporadically change the location of where I click and where the end of the mouse appears to be... I never had this problem in vista.
I tried installing the latest synaptics drivers and the original synaptics drivers from acer's website but the problem never got fixed.
How do I fix this?
does this still happen if you completely remove the synaptics drivers and reboot?
Windows 7 should give basic touchpad operation without any special drivers if you clear the issue without he drivers at least you know where the issue is
Yes it does. That's why I tried installing the synaptics drivers to fix it.
I'm running windows 7 pro RTM x86 on an Acer 5715z which probably uses the same hardware and drivers without issues.
The fact that you had it working in Vista would point to a Windows 7 issue rather than hardware
I've seen similar issues on graphics tablets but never on a touchpad.
Have you tried attaching a conventional mouse to check if it's a hardware related issue?
Ok the other suspect in this would be your graphics setup - the mouse / trackpad positioning the pointer correctly but the graphics system painting the pointer incorrectly.
One way to check this is to see if it happens in safe mode or changing resolution and seeing if the issue remains
You may also want to check if any updated drivers are available for the graphics.
worst case scenario could of course be some fault with either the install or even the install disks
