    USB 3.0 Monitor

I recently installed a Silverstone USB 3.0 PCI-E card. My WD Mypassport external HD did not seem to be running as fast as I thought it should when plugged in to the new USB 3.0 port. I noticed, in msconfig, a USB 3.0 Monitor (rusb3mon) running at start up and unchecked it. My Passport then speeded up to about 3 times its speed when plugged into a USB 2 port. That is about what I expected.

My question is What in the world is the purpose of USB 3.0 Monitor?

    Thank you.

Don't let the name fool you, its more likely its a utility bundled with and installed with the drivers for your USB 3 card, that monitors whether or not devices are inserted into the motherboard's USB 3.0 port. Look though Programs and Features in Control Panel, or even in your Start Menu. It may be something you don't need or want.

    Thanks alphanumeric.

Yes that is exactly how it got there. It doesn't appear in Programs and Feature or in the Startup folder. The only place is in msconfig under startup. I unchecked it and all the squirrely things that were happening went away.

    Thanks again.

No problem, if its disabled and everything still works, then its obviously not needed.

"...The Monitor Application, if installed, alerts the user when a USB 3.0 device
is connected to a USB 2.0 port. Performance normally will improve if the
device is connected to a USB 3.0 port. ..."
