I brought Dell Inspiron 14R laptop 2 years back . My laptop is not getting on with battery..only when power cable is plugged in its getting on..but getting message saying "plugged in not charging"...replace the battery.
Is this an issue with battery or do i need to change the AC adapter. Do i need to buy a new battery?
Please let me know your suggestions. Thanking you in advance.
Hello,
does anyone have any other ideas? More than 1 month with this problem now and I have tried everything short of taking apart the hardware.
1. uninstalled and reinstalled ACPI
2. removed and reinserted the battery in all sorts of orders
3. Updated the bios
4. ran disk check
5. even partitioned and installed a different OS
I'm pretty sure charger and battery are fine, as I have swapped them around into a friends laptop. I'm at a loss, and very frustrated with Dell right now.
Hi,
I just noticed the same issue with battery charging. I checked the Battery Meter. There are number of tabs: Status, Battery Health, Desktop mode and longevity mode. Clicked on Desktop mode.
Where I found the button that allows you to charge the battery to 100%.
It seems that Dell has designed or configured the battery charging only between 50 -100 % and if you do not click on the button for battery to charge all the way, it only charges up-to 75%.
Currently it is charging and I see it has gone up-to 80%. It is fully charged now.
Hope that helps. Meena

Thanks for the reply Meena; unfortunately my settings show only two tabs: Battery Status and Battery health. Anyway, I've been using my work PC mostly these days. I'll stick with this problem till I find a solution.
Hello to the fellow helper from Dell
I'm having this same problem, my battery wont charge. I tried to follow your guidelines but the problem is that my battery got stuck at 6% and therefore I cannot run any BIOS update.
What should I do in this case?
Thanks!

Afraid none of the above helped, sorry.
I'll sum up my problem as quickly as I can.
- My Dell Inspiron n5110 is running Windows 7.
- Battery 'charging' animation in the status bar lasts ten seconds after boot-up and then freezes.
- Computer says battery is 'plugged in, charging' but it's not charging!
- Battery has no charge.
- Ran Dell diagnostic tests on battery and motherboard and all is well, apparently!
- Virtually all online advice is to go to 'device manager' - uninstall battery drivers, restart computer & let system reinstall drivers automatically. Did this already but to no avail.
- So my computer tells me all is well, and it's definitely not a problem with my power cable because the computer dies immediately when I attempt to run it on battery only.
A Windows 7 bug? I've had this laptop 3 years but never used the battery much.
Someone please help.
