Signs of hard drive going bad? Or something else?

    Hi,

Recently I've suspected that my hard drive may have some minor damage. I've noticed the following issues:

-1 program I often use, notepad++, has trouble loading sometimes. Another one, Market Samurai, does not fully load at all anymore, even after a re-install. I have to close them using the task manager after they hang.

Upon reinstalling the program that never fully loads anymore (Market Samurai) I encountered this error message:

After pressing "retry" the installation was able to complete but the program still doesn't work.

    - Sometimes my computer hangs for 20 minutes when restarting. On one occasion when this was happening I powered it off manually. The next time I turned it on, the computer did some kind of hard drive check that I've never seen before (I don't remember exactly what it was called; there were 3 "phases" to it)

Other than that the computer does function normally though. I'm just upset that I can't use one of my important programs on it anymore.

Does this sound like a damaged hard drive or something else?
