MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

please carry out following:
Run disk management:
This method gives you a display without the unneeded navigation pane.
WIN=key with Microsoft logo on top.

Maximize the output of Disk Management:
key combo | X key (selects Maximize) |
Drag the field separators (such as between Status and Capacity) to show entire field.

Make a snapshot:
Drag the cursor around the area you want to snip.
File | Save as | select save location and name | Save

Post the snapshot:

Hello Golduser , there may be some corruption or damages in the system files that is causing the problem (as suggested by my friend marsmimar ) . Otherwise, we all are able to rename drives by just right clicking .

To get rid of any system file integrity violation, you need to run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker .

Golduser, this is not a common Windows 7 problem. Yes it has happened before, but it is relatively rare. We are doing our best to help you. Karlsnooks and Arc gave you some very good suggestions. I would recommend you try them, it may resolve the problem or at least give us some insight into the cause. So, please post the screen shots that Karlsnooks asked for and run the test that Arc asked for. There is a reason you cannot do something as simple as rename a drive. We are just looking to find what that reason is.

my new pc w/wndows 7 can't read CD's from windows 98
My new PC with Wndos 7 can't read the files on CD-RW's made with my old PC with Wndos 98"E. I get the message "file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". Also, I can't write to those CD's in Wndos 7. I get the message that the CD is full when in fact the CD-RW has a lot of space left. Any help?

Install Wndows 7 without an optical drive on a brand new computer?
Alright. I am somewhat a beginner to this. My mother wants to buy a small laptop (13.3'' toshiba t130D). When I went to the store to buy it, the salesman told me that I need to pay 85$ to get windows 7 installed on it since it has NO OPTICAL DRIVE. It seems like a rip-off... I was wondering......
