Windows 7: Trying to burn to a disc with DRM already on it

I was asked to do the video for a local workshop; my job was to record, edit, burn, and distribute to the participants. The woman running it sent me the DVDs she wanted the video to be put on.



I'm pretty sure the DVDs came with a physical DRM already on them; I can see a stripe burned on each one. None of my programs even recognize them as writable discs. Is there a special program I can use to write to these (preferably one that doesn't cost a fortune)?

Not sure I understand you exactly but ..

Blank Discs do not have any form of DRM. DRM will only be found on commercial DVD videos.

If they are re-writeable, you may need to erase the disc first if it already contains content. But, again, there should be no DRM.


It could be a issue that your DVD/Bluray burner doesnt like the particular brand of media.

From what I understand, it is possible to order discs with the DRM already on them from certain manufacturers. I believe the woman who gave me the discs ordered them from such a manufacturer; in addition to the appearance of a pre-burned section, the discs all came with her company information printed onto them.

Theres CPRM, but this shouldn't have any impact on the PC. Some players require it, and it restricts certain things from being copied to the media.
As far as I know, some shows in Japan are broadcast with a DRM signal, and are prevented from being copied to the CPRM discs. But this is the only situation where burning a video could cause a issue, that Im aware of.

But, beyond that, it should have not any impact on anything.You should still be able to burn DATA and Video to them without issue.

The only thing I can think of right now, is that your particular DVD burner is not comapatable with the discs. Some burners will not play nicely with them, if thats what you have.
Do you have a another PC around with a different type of DVD burner to test?
Another option is to get new discs, DVD +R
