Windows 7: Do I need a parallel port connection rather than a usb?

Do I need a parallel port connection rather than a usb?

I'm able to print standard images but when I print Separations in advanced mode.It gives me a print error.

And your printer is...?

I doubt that many people here print color separations. (Most may not know what they are. I've heard of them, but never had anything to do with them.)

HP LAZERJET 1200 SERIES -
After it has downloaded it give me a Error 5 Running Command./install.exe
I can adjust the seperation but as soon as i hit print it just goes into think mode?

"Error 5" sounds like something is corrupted in your WIndows installation.

It's beyond my ability to diagnose.

According to the manufacturer of laserjet it is natively supported in Win 7 and therefore does not need a driver.
