7 x64 mouse and keyboard randomly stop working.

As of lately my mouse and keyboard sometimes just stop working. It seems to happen more often while I'm playing games (but that's mostly what I do so not sure if that has anything to do with it ). Usually before it happens I'll hear the usb sound and the mouse will disconnect and reconnect and it'll work fine then just out of the blue it'll disconnect and that's that. I have to shutdown and restart. It only just started doing this a couple weeks ago. My mouse is a logitech UAE-96 (I think) and the keyboard is a microsoft ergonomic 4000, its an ASUS MoBo, I've checked keyboard drivers and they are up to date and I've also checked my usb drivers, also up to date. I used the mouse on my laptop for quite awhile before I built this pc and never had a problem.

Take a look. I've done lots of troubleshooting and still no luck. Try turning of the power saving feature on the USB devices.

Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Power Options/Edit Plan Settings - Change Advanced Power settings

If a USB mouse and keyboard scroll to USB devices open the Plus mark, and disable the power feature. This will prevent windows from shutting off power to the device, a common cause for this problem. Hope it works for you. If not rule out the mouse and keyboard by trying them on other computers, then start walking down the road I'm on...lol

I'm having the exact same issue, where I notice I'll have a quick lapse of response from my mouse or keyboard then after some period of time, it will become totally unresponsive after which my only choice is to do a cold boot. I have looked at my device manager and seen no problems, as well as checked recent updates, and done a system restore, but still to no avail.

Are you using front or rear USB ports? On a lot of cases the front USB ports aren't secured very well and end up with loose connections. Maybe try switching them to the rear ports?

I have been only using the rear USB ports personally, the only time I've used the front ones are for my external hard drive, and my ipod. This just seems kind of confusing to me.

I'm using the back USB ports. New update, i updated my chipset drivers and BIOS, the problem was fixed for a few days and then out of nowhere the problem came back.

I tried the fix in Pooch's Tutorial...It didn't help. (it might have made things worse, but he warns it might.). I replaced my mouse, again. Have gone through several mice. No mouse disconnects, lately, but my USB camera keeps going nuts. I replaced it, and it 'slowed down' the amount of malfunctions. Basically. the camera mic gets all staticy. Occasionally, Windows re-installs the driver. It is acting like the mouse did in a way. This PC has USB issues...my keyboard also seems to get stuck a little while gaming. I get a little pause often when running around. No disconnect beep, though. When that happens a lot, my webcam mic will go out. I quick-fix my webcam mic by unplugging it, and restarting Teamspeak. It works fine for a while.

Aside from cheap equipment issues (the mice) Win7 seems to have configuration files that are indeed getting corrupted.
I'll re-install the OS (again). If you have not looked at Pooch's tutorial, do so. This problem lies somewhere in the files for the composite devices, I'll bet.

I've gone through about 4 Logitech mice in a year. Maybe voltage on my USB is wrecking them...I dunno. BIOS says voltages are good. I'll get around to putting a voltmeter on it.

The Windows FIX IT stuff is getting a little better. I temporarily stopped my webcam problem. It actually seemed to find a problem with my driver files and fixed it.

I'm having the same problem too, I have no idea what is causing it and how to fix it.

The only difference with mine is that the keyboard & mouse don't lose power, they just stop responding entirely.

Same here! Everything is lit up but unresponsive. Only solution is a cold boot...

I'm having the EXACT issue as you people above.

I'm using a Dell XPS8300. It has been working fine for the last 1 year, and this problem started a couple of weeks ago.

I'm playing a game, and the mouse stops working. Or the mouse and keyboard. Its random. The lights stay on, but they won't budge. System is responsive though, because my game is continuing on as normal, and people are talking to me online, but I can't respond. I can't do anything but hard boot the system to resolve the issue temporarily.

I've disabled power disablement on the USB hubs. I've set power settings to high performance. I've done a system restore...no help. I'm seeing this problem is pretty common with Windows 7 users.

I'd like to find a fix before resorting to doing a complete system overwrite recovery.
