I did and didn't notice a problem so I figured it was probably a Windows update, but reading into others' problems regarding this mouse, I decided to start back at square 1: the mouse. I know you also tested a PS2 mouse, but it is possible it could be both mice with the same problem.

The cord connection on the top of the mouse is where there's often a short in the device. I plugged the mouse into another computer (to rule out other issues) and decided to roll the cord in a circle. Sure enough, every time I bent the cord to the left, disconnect. It was a small enough short that I hadn't noticed the problem when I was using it on my other machine simply because of the way the cord was hanging. So yeaaah, head back to the drawing board and test it out...if that's not it, well, I wish I could help point you in a better direction. If it is it, I'm sorry all the hard work has gone to waste, but at least an answer is better than none. Good luck!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have the same problem, and indeed, when the cable is bent to the left where it exits the mouse, the error occurs. I have rearranged my cables, so hopefully this won't happen anymore...

I have since purchased a new gaming mouse 'Perixx' deleted all the logitec installations and drivers from Programme and Features (Control Panel) and an unidentified mouse installation in Device Manager. Since then I have had no problems. I hav'nt tested the mouse on another PC but being the other systems are differant I would assume they would be ok.

Jan 2013 Update
This mouse has given no problems compared to those that I had with the Logitec types and therefore can categorically say there was a fault between Logitec and my Windows 7 system.

It has to be a windows 7 64 update from way back, I have no clue what one. The reason i say this is because my g5 worked fine for almost a year after i got my windows 7 system, then Poof it was doing exactly what you said yours is doing. and I don't even play games on this set up.

also if i switch usb ports, it will quit doing it for a an hour or so, then go right back to it. My g5 works fine on xp fine on every OP system before 7 it doesn't work right on 7 32bit either.

Logitech knows what it is, they just don't want to mess with it i guess. I still have no answers

i wish they would just make a new mouse exactly like the g5 and make drivers for that mouse that were adaptable to the OP systems.
