Wipe free space on SSD? Is it safe?

I posted under "hardware" because it's my SSD that might be at risk. I was wiping the free space on my SSD along with a HDD. However, after the fact, I remembered reading a little about trim and how free space is used. I don't really get all techy but it seems like wiping the free space on a SSD might not be such a good idea? Any thoughts or advice?

There is no need to wipe the free space on a SSD. Trim and Garbage Collection will handle that
