SSD as cache for HDD RAID ARRAY help

Ladies and Gents of the Seven Forums...

I am in need of some advice, and guidance, and maybe some constructive criticism for configuring SSD as a cache for HDD. Now let me begin by giving some specs here:

    Intel 40 GB SSD
    1TB HDD
    Win 7 x64
    Intel Rapid Start Technology Utility
    10 cups of coffee...ha!

So I recently setup this duo in RAID array or at least I think I did. I haven't fiddled with this setup before so I apologize in advance for any "noobiness." Quick summary of what I have done.

Changed SATA mode to RAID in BIOS
    Installed OS Win 7 x64
    Ran the Intel RST utility

My issue is as follows: When windows restarts I get the Ctrl-I prompt for RAID config. Was i supposed to do some extra configuring here after the fact or just leave it alone? I am under the impression that Intel RST utility tool took care of this. If not what steps do I need to take to finalize my work?

Any and all help appreciated...thanks in advance!

What are you trying to accomplish?
    What type of RAID?
It requires at least two drives for a RAID.

This may be what you want.

I'll try to clear up any confusion.

I recently acquired a hand me down intel SSD 40GB. I was told that could use this nifty piece of hardware to improve system performance, albeit by a small amount, but some is better than none.

Before installing I searched around google for install tips and configs. I used the exact same utility you linked to. All is installed and works fine. However, I'm confused if I have to change RAID settings using the ctrl-I prompt to set a RAID 0 config. If thats even possible? I seen something on google that mentioned i had too so just trying to get more info on subject.

    thx

You should not need to do anything further.

I'm not sure where or why you have RAID on the mind, but with one drive, you aren't going to have an array. I don't know much about setting up the caching, using the SSD to basically turn your 1 TB into a hybrid drive, but setting the controller as RAID in the BIOS should not be needed. Read your manual for the proper setup steps and configuration.

I agree that i shouldn't be thinking about RAID but when I read the info from the following link. I just had to ask. Step-by-step guide to setting up SSD caching on Z68 and Z77 - Overclockers Forums
