Windows 7: Need a cable extension

Need a cable extension

Not sure which cable extension it would be. I have 1 x 4+4 pins ATX 12V/EPS 12V connector on my psu. I need to extend these two 4 pins to connect to the motherboard 8 pin so my cable management is a bit better. Not sure what extension would work with it.

Newegg.com - 1ST PC CORP. Model CB-4M-8F 12" 8-pin/P4+P4-pin EPS female converted from molex 4-pin male Cable

Newegg.com - 1ST PC CORP. Model CB-8M-8F 12" 8-pin EPS extension cable

Here's my power supply if you need to take a look at it to help find the extension.

I didn't realize an extension was that hard to find, but I'm not sure which.

Newegg seems to be a little lacking in the cable area. You'll find a few more at Amazon.

If your motherboard has an 8 pin, that simplifies your choice, as you won't need an extender with a splittable 4+4 male end.

I'm not sure which I need, which is why I was asking. I have two 4 pin connectors that go into the 8 pin. I'm assuming it's separated like that in case an matx board is used and you only need a 4 pin, but I'm not completely sure. That's one reason I was asking.

You are correct in the spit 4+4 cable. Some MB's have 8 pin and some 4 pin so the spit cable works for both. The 1st one on your list is WRONG, it is for a molex connector. The 2nd will work as it has the split connector and will work for 8 pin or 4 pin MB. This is good if you ever update your MB to one with only a 4pin connector.

That's right. 4 pin and 8 pin are two standards for the 12V CPU power.

I was a little confused by the description of the CB-4M-8F. It turns out that the description is correct, but Newegg displays the wrong picture. The right one is here:

1st PC Corp.

As Phone Man writes, you don't want one of those.

The CB-8M-8F is the right sort, and it's splittable.

The $2 shipping on that cable isn't too bad. Sometimes Newegg charges more for shipping small parts than for the part. And they won't reduce shipping on combined orders. (I know that's due to their multiple warehouses, widely scattered around the US, but it's still an annoyance.)

I wish the connectors were black. The cable sleeving matches what I have, but the connection parts don't. I'd like it to match, but that's all I see. Unless I look around somewhere else and possibly find something cheaper on shipping or regular price as well.

Check these out at Newegg. One is the 8 pin in black and the next is a 3 cable set. It has a 8 pin, 4 pin and also a 24 pin cable.

Nice catch on that first one. It's just what I was looking for and much cheaper. Thanks.
