External HD usb plug-in problem

Hello,

I am having trouble with my external HD- when I plug into my laptop it does not appear. I get the "bing bong" noise but no option to open it.

I have plugged it into my partner's computer and it works with no trouble.

Any help much appreciated!

(other info)
This external drive is my old internal 1Tb I bought a case converter for it to be used externally. It has lots of very important data on it I can't afford to lose.

Thanks!

When you plug it in your computer, give it time to be recognized. If nothing appears, go into Disk Management, and see if the drive appears there. If so, you may just need to assign it a drive letter.
