About the only thing I can think of is to go to the manufacturer's web site, find your particular laptop and download and install the latest Chipset driver
. It would be a good time to update all drivers
. When I first started reading, I thought your USB drive had gone bad, but if it happened with another mouse or USB drive, I agree it sounds more like a usb problem with your laptop.
