I recently had the opportunity to help a friend of mine set up a new desktop. The old computer was a Vista box so what I had tried to do at first was take the hard drive out of the Vista machine and put it into the new Windows Seven computer as a secondary drive. I noticed upon boot that the Disk Partitioning utility did see the drive in the SATA1 position however the file system of SATA1 was not showing up in the My Computer icon area. So I tried to mount the partition manually with the Disk Partitioning utility where I was presented with an error saying that I should restart the computer. I did eventually transfer the data however I was wondering what was causing the difficulty. Also I suppose I could have booted to SATA1 however with the new hardware that could really have raised a whole host of issues I think. Is the file system of the old machine not mountable for some reason? If not what would have been preventing the file system from being mounted automatically?
