wireless card shows up as unknown after windows reinstall

Installed new hard drive and Windows 7, wireless card shows up as unknown device.
I was having major stability issues with windows. I wanted a new hard drive so i installed it and a new copy of windows. The wireless worked fine before, and ethernet works fine now. It shows up in device manager as other devices, network controller with a yellow exclamation mark. I have gone to Dell to install the driver. It almost finishes then says you do not have a recognized wireless device.

My comp is a Dell Inspiron M5010, I installed windows 7 HP 64 bit same as what was on before. WHDPC, K5Y6D are the numbers I have found for the card. I have tried several different drivers and all have the same error.

Any idea how to get windows to recognize the card so the drivers I install will recognize it? There are many threads about this in various places, but none of the solutions work.

Have you entered your service tag number from Dell.
That should tell you what was installed when you purchased the computer and point to the correct drivers.

Hi Mechanic380,

My name is Maran and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell.
With Regards to your issue you can download the Drivers & follow the troubleshooting steps that will help us fix the issue.

In a Dell Inspiron M5010 the wireless card installed is Wireless WLAN 1501 Half Mini-Card (4313bgn).

You can download the driver from dell support site. Mentioned below is the link.

Once open the link, click on download now & follow the on screen instruction.

If you are still facing the same issue then try the next link mentioned below.

You can also try installing the wireless driver from device manager.
1. Go to device manager – right click my computer- select properties – then select Device manager.
2. Once open device manager- right click on unknown device & select up-date driver.
3. The next screen select - Search Automatically for up-date driver software. ( you need to be connected to internet using network cable)
4. This will starting searching for the appropriate driver.

Even after all these steps if you are still facing issue. We need the reseat the Wireless card & then install drivers.

Thank you for the help. The first driver gave the same error. "No compatible hardware found. The software you are attempting to install is not supported on this system.
The software will not be installed. setup will now exit."

The second located on the blog site worked perfectly. I am now browsing with my wireless.

You should inform dell that their service keys do not link to the correct driver. I used the key off the back of my comp. I downloaded what it suggested, and what other sites said was the proper one. Anyways your help was perfect. Thank you so much.
