Windows 7: Blu ray/DVD/CD writer selectively reading discs

Blu ray/DVD/CD writer selectively reading discs

I have a Sony Vaio vpcf136fm and it no longer reads DVD discs or Blu-Rays

I originally thought this a hardware issue, however, the drive will read music CD's, cd-rom discs, DVD writable discs and some old DVD discs, i.e. it will read the discs of for the Witcher but not the discs for the Witcher 2. I have uninstalled/installed and disabled/enabled the drive several times to no avail. I have also done a system recovery and reinstalled windows 7 64bit. What I've noticed is that an external dvd-rom is now experiencing the same issues. This provides more evidence, in my humble opinion, that the issue is software related. I attempted to find drivers but found nothing and there is no firmware for the drive model on the Sony website. Please help, I don't know what to do. The drives in question are: pioneer bdc-td03 & Liteon eTDU108-99 1.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you may offer.
