wondering if any of you hardware gurus are convinced that one type of RAM vs another runs cooler? I see that, on the desktop side, Corsair has some current generation DDR3's that have a heat spreader that, I guess, is supposed to make them cool efficiently, but I have not seen such for notebook.
am I missing something I should know?

Notebook SODIMMs do not come with heat spreaders, they're all of one size to fit in the highly compact innards of a notebook.
As a result, they'd most probably run at similar temperatures, only dependant on the heat dissipation of the other components in the notebook itself (like the CPU and GPU) and the memory speeds and timings of the RAM module(s).

Not a problem. I know that it's tempting to want to bling out your laptop, but we've to remind ourselves that it's really only possible on a Desktop or a DTR...
