The only thing I change is the xmp to profile 1. All other settings are at auto.
One thing I noticed is when I enable xmp the CPU clock drive drops from 800mv to 700mv. And the PCI express clock drive drops from 900mv to 700mv. Could this be due to the lower voltage of ram (1.35).
I really don't know which settings to mess with.
I am not familiar with gigabyte, but on my board you can select the ram speed from a list starting at 1066 up to 2300, so I just select 1600 and keep all the rest as auto
In gigabyte i have to select from the xmp menu the setting profile1 in order to set the speed to 1600. it also changes the volts and some other settings in bios like the ones i mentioned.
I can also set the multiplier for dram manually and all other ram settings to acieve 1600.
And i don't know how to set load line calibration (LLC) and other volt settings like qpi/vtt.........
There is a thread opened somewhere on how to overclock your ram, I am sorry but I don't know gigabyte, maybe you will get the answers there.
I know i will find sth in the forums for overclocking the ram.
I just discussed it because i had already opened the thread here :)

I know, I did the same as you. Check my specs. Your i860 chip is rated by Intel at 1066/1333 and you hav 1600 ram. In my case and maybe yours XMP put the setting even faster and Bingo BSOD. No two chips are the same but with proper cooling you could problably run the ram at 1600 if you set things manualy. Your memory controler is built into the cpu if I remember correctly so watch your cpu temps.
