I know, but this was not the case, Stalker wanted to upgrade to those specific items, and for the money he wants to spend its great, its his choice and is still gonna be an improvement and any upgrade is good, thats why its called upgrading. And besides, if any user reads this from the start, they will see that allot of different opinions were given, but they were all rounded on Stalkers decision on what he wanted.

When there's an improvement, yes. You keep harping on this point. A new platform alone doesn't constitute an upgrade. Given my personal example, had I gone from a Q9550 to an i3-2100....that's not an upgrade. If anything, that would be a downgrade.

You made your point more than once Deaconfrost. Let the guy enjoy his purchase. When you get your next upgrade, I hope someone doesn't rain on your parade.
You aren't seeing the point, either. I'm not raining on his parade, as I clearly made meniton that he had a unique, specific reason.

If you search through my posts, you'll see my primary goal here is helping people (in between asking for help myself to fill the gaps in my knowledge). This isn't an enthusiast forum, but a general help forum, and the vast majority of people on here are learning about computer parts and speccing them out, etc.

I hate seeing people spend their money and not get value for their dollar. That's why, on car related forums, I talk as many people out of buying Korean cars as I can. Value for the dollar. I work hard for my money, so I assume others do as well. Search on here yourself to see how many people buy new computers, or listen to their "friend" or so and so, and bought something that's wasn't worth the money.

Again, Stalker made his purchasing decisions based on unique factors....and upgrading to a faster computer wasn't the goal. I agree with him on that point, but others don't. He stated his real upgrade will be to a laptop. That's the gist I'm trying to show here....that a new platform isn't necessarily an upgrade. Stalker said it...and so did I. Newer isn't always better. That wasn't his intent. Now that we settled the semantics part...it should be able to go back to business as usual. The comments I made aren't directed at anyone person in particular. That should be clear, considering Stalker has already made his purchases.

I guess it is all in how you look at it. If you are a business and are looking for improved performance for an office full of computers, it makes sense to wait until you can get significant improvement. If you are like me and many others here, and computers are a hobby and you like working on them, I say go for it. I have upgraded mine so many times I don't care to count them. Sometimes I got a significant improvement in performance. Sometimes, I did just because I wanted to. And I'm glad I did. I was happier with my rig than before the upgrade. StalkeR upgraded, if I recall correctly, from a 775 socket to an 1155 socket, upgraded from DDR2 ram to DDR3 ram, for little to no money. Personally I consider that a win-win in anyway you want to look at it. Face it, many of us are computer enthusiasts. That is an addiction. It does not need to make rational sense, we are required to do it, and we know it.
