Hi Elnene,
I am actually having the same issue regarding a spare external drive and Windows 7. The drive works perfectly on XP and Wii but the second I plug it into my laptop (windows 7) **YOU NEED TO FORMAT......** This is not an option! I have searched the internet far and wide - there are a few fixes that have worked for some but unfortunately not me. I also noticed that NONE / NO ONE / NOT ONE Windows 7 'Help sites' that have Windows 7 'gurus' have bothered to EVER answer this rather common problem. There are threads older than 4 years that have never been answered and I see your thread is already 4 weeks old... Sad really.
I CAN'T BELIEVE MicroSoft can't help regarding this issue???????????????????
In this time I hope you have come right!!!
Kind regards
Eldin Mc
