Problems after updating to 64 bit OS

I had the 32 bit version of windows 7 professional, and everything ran smoothly. All of my drivers and hardware were detected and working automatically. I decided to upgrade to the 64 bit version, and nothing seems to work anymore. The network adapter is detected, but won't connect, the sound card isn't detected, the graphics card I installed isn't working either. I've used the windows upgrade advisor to see if my hardware will work with 64bit, and everything is good. I've even tried reinstalling with a friends DVD for windows 7 but still no good. I went back to 32 bit to check, and everything worked automatically.
I've also tried offline updating for windows, and now the sound card is detected, but only static comes out..

I've tried going into device manager and manually installing the network driver, but I've had no luck. What else can I try?

If you could fill in your system specs, this will help us in helping you determine what the issue might be. With out that information, it's like searching for a needle in a hay stack. It could be anything.

Tough to help since you have not filled out your system specifications.

Have you gone to your motherboard manufacturer's web site and searched for the appropriate LAN driver?

What type of disk have you been using for the 64-bit installs? OEM? burned? retail? borrowed?

Hello MooseMirza, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Did you mean that you did a clean install to 64-bit Windows 7? It's not possible to upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit. Only to clean install instead.

You will not be able to use 32-bit drivers in 64-bit Windows. If you have not already, you will need to download and install 64-bit Windows 7 drivers for each device that you are having issues with.

Could you also fill out your system specs? This will better help us to help you find drivers for these devices. :)

System Info - See Your System Specs

Another voice crying out for your system specs.

Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec (left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

In the System Manufacturer Block, enter:
Manufacturer and Model and
ADD the word laptop, desktop, netbook or tablet.
For example:
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

You will find that in Speccy, you can select info from the display
using your mouse/touchpad and then paste that info into your specs.

SIW is a marvelous program, but the free version does not offer
this capability.

Thanks for the quick replies! Really appreciate it:) I'm on my tablet and it's giving me some trouble. I updated the spec before posting but I assume It didn't save. And I have no network connection on my pc so its difficult to download things I'll do the specs again

Edit: alright I've updated it, if there's any more info needed just let me know. And yes I have clean installed windows every time

I assume, from previous posts that this is a desktop. In any case, add the word desktop, laptop, netbook, tablet or whatever to the mfg/model info.

Did you wipe the disk clean before installing the 64 bit version?

Do you have a win 64 bit DVD?

Do you have a System Repair Disc?

CREATE A SYSTEM REPAIR DISC

START | type System Repair | Enter key | Create Disc button

If need be, you could download them from another computer, save them to say a USB flash drive, then install them on your computer.

Looking at the link below from Acer, they only have 64-bit Vista drivers available that you could use for the M1100 if the ones below from the manufacturer's site do not work for some reason.

However, I did find the 64-bit Windows 7 drivers that are available at the devices manufacturer's site below though. :)

Realtek HD Audio
Marvel LAN (ethernet)
ATI Radeon X1200 (Vista but will work in Windows 7)

It would be convenient if Acer provided downloads for Win7 drivers for the Aspire M1100, but they seem to have nothing newer than Vista.

Given the specs:

Acer Support: Aspire M1100 Specifications

you may be able to find downloads for drivers for the individual pieces.

Alternately, you may be able to install the Vista drivers, and Windows Update may serve up newer drivers.
